Multiple Asteroids Safely Pass Earth, NASA Reports

A 1.2-kilometer asteroid, named 139622 (2001 QQ142), passed within 5.5 million kilometers of Earth without posing any immediate danger. Although it fell into the category of "potentially hazardous objects," NASA scientists will continue to monitor its trajectory to ensure future safety. While most asteroids burn up upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, larger ones can cause significant destruction, as seen in the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago.

Five Massive Asteroids Approaching Earth at High Speeds.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has shared details about five asteroids that will make close approaches to Earth during May. None of these asteroids pose any risk to Earth, but any object larger than about 500 feet approaching Earth within a distance of 4.6 million miles is considered a potentially hazardous object. NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test spacecraft slammed into asteroid Dimorphos last year to prove whether an impact of this nature could be used to gently nudge a doomsday asteroid away from Earth.

Multiple asteroids approaching Earth at alarming speeds, NASA issues warnings.

NASA warns that a 130-foot asteroid, moving at a speed of 42404 kilometers per hour, is rushing towards Earth today. However, the asteroid, dubbed 2023 HX, is not classified as a threat to Earth as it will make the closest approach at a distance of 4.19 million miles. NASA utilizes optical and radio telescopes, including the NEOWISE telescope, to track potentially hazardous asteroids and obtain comprehensive characterization data about them.
