Poland Works to Fix Leak in Russia's Druzhba Oil Pipeline
Polish pipeline operator PERN has halted pumping through a section of the Druzhba oil pipeline after detecting a leak in central Poland. The cause of the leak is unknown, but repair work is underway, and oil flows are expected to resume on Tuesday. The impact on supply to Germany is unclear, but the federal Economy Ministry in Berlin assures that the security of supply is fully guaranteed. The affected section of the pipeline has been isolated, and the leak's scale is relatively small. Flows through the Druzhba pipeline have already dropped since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and pipeline infrastructure has been targeted in attacks blamed on Ukraine. Europe remains concerned about the security of its energy infrastructure following major leaks in the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
