The tomb of Amenhotep III in Egypt's Valley of the Kings has reopened to the public after over 20 years of restoration, part of Egypt's efforts to boost tourism and showcase its ancient heritage, with renovations including wall paintings and preservation of the tomb's structure.
The Egyptian pyramids were built between approximately 2700 B.C. and 1500 B.C., making them around 4,700 to 3,500 years old. The first pyramid was built by Pharaoh Djoser, and the last pyramid built for a pharaoh was constructed for Ahmose I. The pyramids were likely built for protection against tomb robbers and for religious reasons, possibly related to the growing influence of the sun cult. The construction of pyramids ceased, and pharaohs were buried in underground tombs in the Valley of the Kings, possibly due to security concerns.
The 18th dynasty of Ancient Egypt, which lasted around 250 years, is the longest dynasty. It started around 1550 B.C. and ended with the death of Tutankhamun. Historians divide Egypt's history into 30 dynasties, but the concept of dynasties was created by Manetho in the third century B.C. The periods of Greek and Roman rule were longer than any of the Egyptian dynasties.
