"WWII Shipwreck Survey Uncovers Lost Dunkirk Boats"
Dozens of shipwrecks from Operation Dynamo, the mass evacuation of Allied troops during World War II, have been identified in the Dunkirk channel. A multibeam sonar survey conducted by archaeologists from Historic England and France's DRASSM has allowed for the creation of 3D models of the wrecks, preserving the memory of these ships and the human history behind them. Operation Dynamo, which took place from May 26 to June 4, 1940, saw the evacuation of over 338,000 soldiers on various vessels. The search for wrecks aims to protect them from potential construction plans and raise awareness of this important milestone in WWII history.
