Bakerville Exit Rezoning Dropped, Open Space Wins Near I-70

Developers withdrew the rezoning request to build a gas station/truck stop at the Bakerville I-70 exit, canceling a January hearing after strong local opposition and conservation concerns. Medio Arquitectura designs Hachi Cabin.

The Hachi Cabin, located in southern Chile, is a single large space designed to preserve the existing trees and make the most of light and heat. The cabin has three levels, with level changes used to mark the difference between areas. The project has a rustic appearance with vitrified concrete flooring, white bone-painted plasterboard walls and ceilings, and old bridge structures from the area used for visible wood elements. The exterior is covered with pre-painted black zinc, except for the volume that advances towards the north, which was covered with local stone.

The Pros and Cons of an Open Bathroom Design.

A house in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, designed by Carbajo Barrios and built by Martínez Neira, features an open space with no interior divisions and a bathroom that is not enclosed. The design adopts the humble, simple, and honest tone of an existing single-story gable home on the plot, expressing itself through codes more typical of a warehouse or industrial building than of a house. The interior finishes use bare and necessary materials, seeking the dignity of what is useful and necessary.
