The UK's net migration reached a record high of 606,000 last year, with non-European Union nationals driving the increase, according to the Office for National Statistics. The data has put pressure on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who has pledged to bring numbers down. Sunak has pointed to reforms announced earlier this week, which would remove the right for some international students to bring family members into the country. The ONS estimated that in 2022, there were 114,000 long-term arrivals from Ukraine and 52,000 from Hong Kong under special visa schemes.
