Leading the nation in both scoring and assists for the second year in a row, Clark's achievement adds to her impressive legacy as she and the Iowa Hawkeyes head into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed.
LSU right-hander Paul Skenes has been named the 2023 National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Skenes is the third LSU player to receive the award and has a 10-2 record this season with a 1.89 ERA in 90.1 innings, recording 167 strikeouts and only 17 walks. He leads the Southeastern Conference in several categories and has pledged $10 for every strikeout he records this season to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization.
Aliyah Boston, the 2022 National Player of the Year at South Carolina, has declared for the 2023 WNBA Draft, forgoing one season of remaining eligibility. Boston is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. She was a three-time unanimous All-American with the Gamecocks and won National Player of the Year honors in 2022.
Zach Edey has been named the AP National Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 season in college basketball. Edey also won the Pete Newell ‘Big Man of the Year’ award and has been named the National Player of the Year in three of the six major outlets. He may test the NBA Draft process to determine if he will return to Purdue for his senior season or head to the professional ranks of basketball either in the NBA or in Europe’s top leagues.
The race for the National Player of the Year in women's college basketball is largely viewed as a two-player one between Iowa guard Caitlin Clark and South Carolina center Aliyah Boston. Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist is also a highly viewed contender, with Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes in the conversation and Angel Reese still in some chatter as well. Aliyah Boston, who won the award last year, is the best player on the best team in the nation and has the footwork, consistency and defense to win a second National Player of the Year award. Caitlin Clark is one of the most electric scorers in the game and most dynamic passers, joining the likes of Sabrina Ionescu as guards who dazzle to break through social media clutter. Maddy Siegrist, much like Clark, is incredibly important to Villanova and has the win share numbers to show it.
Purdue Boilermaker center Zach Edey was named as a Consensus AP First Team All American, averaging 22.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.1 blocks. Edey is also the favorite for National Player of the Year. Fellow B1G big man Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jalen Wilson, Marcus Sasser, and Brandon Miller were also named to the AP First Team All Americans.
