Devastating Viral Outbreak Claims Lives of Tilden's Little Farm Rabbits
All seven Dutch rabbits at Tilden Regional Park's Little Farm in California have died or been euthanized due to a rare viral outbreak caused by myxomatosis, likely contracted from mosquitoes infected by wild rabbits. The disease, which primarily affects rabbits and has no treatment or vaccine available in the US, causes swollen eyelids, ears, and genitals, lethargy, and ultimately death. The farm hopes to bring in new rabbits next spring after implementing measures to keep insects out of the hutch. In the meantime, a volunteer known as the "Rabbit Lady" has switched to showcasing the farm's chickens.
