Meta's AI MusicGen: Open-Source Music Generator Trained on 20,000 Hours of Licensed Music.

Meta has released an open-source AI-powered music generator called MusicGen, which can turn a text description into about 12 seconds of audio. MusicGen was trained on 20,000 hours of music, including 10,000 licensed music tracks and 390,000 instrument-only tracks from Shutterstock and Pond5. MusicGen can also be "steered" with reference audio. While generative music is improving, there are still major ethical and legal issues to be ironed out, including copyright concerns.

Meta's MusicGen AI creates genre mashups from licensed music.

Meta's Audiocraft research team has released MusicGen, an open-source deep learning language model that can generate new music based on text prompts and even be aligned to an existing song. MusicGen is faster than existing methods and can be run locally, available in four model sizes. It is open source and can even be used to generate commercial music.
