Arkansas has become the latest state to allow travelers to use Mobile ID instead of physical IDs at TSA checkpoints, simplifying the security process. Over 30,000 people in Arkansas have already downloaded the Mobile ID, which is available in multiple states and can also serve as a boarding pass, making travel more convenient.
Samsung has announced that users will soon be able to upload their driver's licenses and state IDs to Samsung Wallet, with plans to allow apps to use the ID for age authentication in the future. This move comes as Samsung catches up with Apple in bringing digital verification technology to its products. Initially, users from Arizona and Iowa will be able to add their documents to Samsung Wallet, with more states expected to be added later. Samsung is also working with the US Transportation Security Administration on a test program to accept smartphone-based IDs at select airports. In early 2024, Samsung will release a software development kit for developers to integrate online age and identification information into their apps.
California is conducting a pilot program allowing residents to carry their driver's license on their smartphones through the CA DMV Wallet app. The program is limited to 1.5 million participants and is currently not accepted by law enforcement, state government agencies, or businesses. The mobile driver's license is secured through biometrics and encryption, meeting federal and international security standards.
