Zoram People's Movement Emerges Victorious in Mizoram Elections
In the Mizoram Assembly elections, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), a party that was not even registered four years ago, emerged as the winner with a mandate of 27 seats out of 40, ousting the NDA ally Mizo National Front (MNF) and the long-standing Congress party. The outgoing Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost his seat to ZPM's Lalthansanga, while the Congress party won only one seat and slipped to fourth place behind the BJP. The ZPM leader stated that his party would not align with the NDA or the opposition alliance INDIA and would have an issue-based relationship with the central government.
