Hung Jury Declares Mistrial in Austin Police Officer's Murder Trial
The murder trial of Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor, who was charged in the 2020 shooting death of Michael Ramos, has ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. This is the second mistrial declared in this case. Prosecutors will decide whether to retry Taylor. During the trial, state prosecutors argued that Ramos posed no threat to officers when Taylor shot and killed him, while Taylor's defense focused on the reasonableness of Taylor's perception of the threat. The trial included testimony from witnesses, body camera footage, and expert witnesses. Taylor is also facing charges in another fatal shooting from 2019.
