
Match-fixing Scandal Rocks MLS and Brazilian Soccer
Brazilian winger Max Alves of the Colorado Rapids has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with match-fixing-related offenses by Brazilian prosecutors. Alves is accused of accepting payment to receive a yellow card during a match against the L.A. Galaxy last September. The operation, dubbed Operation Maximum Penalty, also named former Houston Dynamo defender Zeca. The Rapids and the league office have announced they will be conducting an investigation.
