"Sinus Infection Turns Deadly: Half of Skull Removed in Life-Saving Surgery"
A martial arts instructor in California had to undergo emergency brain surgery and have half of her skull removed after a sinus infection spread to her brain. The infection was caused by a mutated gene that hindered the production of a protein responsible for immune response. The abscess in her brain was drained and damaged tissue was removed during the surgery. Following the procedure, she experienced seizures and deep vein thrombosis. Despite the challenges, she has returned to teaching martial arts and is grateful to be alive.
