Bavarian Governor Demands Full Explanation to Address Antisemitism Allegations
The governor of Bavaria, Markus Soeder, has ordered his deputy, Hubert Aiwanger, to provide a detailed explanation regarding allegations of his involvement in an antisemitic flyer from his high school days. Aiwanger denies writing the flyer, claiming his older brother did, but has not explained why he had copies in his school bag. Soeder called the flyer "disgusting" and "written in the worst Nazi jargon," stating that the suspicion alone damages Aiwanger's credibility. The Central Council of Jews in Germany condemned the flyer, and Soeder has asked Aiwanger to answer 25 detailed questions in writing to clarify the matter. The scandal comes at an inconvenient time for Soeder, who is hoping to continue leading Bavaria in coalition with Aiwanger's Free Voters party.
