Google Ventures into Solar Industry, Aims to Make $100 Million Selling Maps Data to Solar Companies
Google plans to license new mapping data to companies in the renewable energy sector, aiming to generate up to $100 million in its first year. The company will offer APIs with solar and energy information, air quality data, and real estate opportunities. The Solar API, sourced from the consumer-focused Project Sunroof, will provide solar installers, design companies, and real estate firms with building data and aggregated information for cities or counties. Google also plans to launch an Air Quality API. This revenue play comes as Google seeks to monetize its maps products and tap into the growing market for sustainability and renewable energy solutions.
