The Changing Attitudes of Millennials Towards Managerial Roles
Not all millennials are interested in pursuing managerial roles, citing high pressure, stress, and a sacrifice of personal life as reasons. A survey found that only 38% of individual contributors are interested in becoming managers. Some millennials believe they can still be leaders in their current roles without managing, through mentoring and other leadership opportunities. Companies can address the succession gap by providing manager onboarding support and considering qualities beyond high performance when selecting managers. Better compensation was identified as a top incentive for becoming a manager, but some millennials prioritize doing what they love over a pay increase.
