Tragedy in Guyana: School dormitory fire claims lives of at least 19 children.
A fire that broke out in the dormitory of a girls' boarding school in Guyana has killed at least 19 children and injured nine others. The fire started just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mahdia Secondary School, nearly 200 miles from Georgetown, the capital. The government launched "a full-scale medical emergency action plan," authorities said, with aircraft loaded with medical supplies and personnel to assist local responders. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
