"Kaiser Strike Marks Historic Moment in US Health Care"
The largest healthcare strike in US history, involving over 75,000 workers across California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, is concluding after three days. The workers, represented by a coalition of unions, are demanding higher wages and solutions to the short-staffing crisis exacerbated by the pandemic. While Kaiser Permanente has argued that the labor shortage affects the entire industry and has made efforts to hire more staff, the unions believe more needs to be done. The unions have rejected Kaiser's offer of a 5% wage increase and demand a 6.5% increase in the first two years of the contract. The strike may resume in a couple of weeks if negotiations do not progress.
