Congressional Responses to Debt Limit Deal
Moderate Democrat Rep. Jim Himes has not yet decided whether to support the tentative agreement between President Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy to raise the debt ceiling, stating that "none of the things in the bill are Democratic priorities." Himes argued that the bill might garner enough support from Democrats to pass, but he takes his role as a check and balance on the president seriously. The deal would raise the debt ceiling for two years and keep non-defense spending roughly consistent with fiscal year 2023 levels.
