Ocean's garbage patch home to floating snails.
Scientists have discovered that ocean currents that collect plastic in the North Pacific garbage patch also concentrate the floating violet sea snail Janthina sp. in the area. The snail builds rafts by trapping air bubbles and encasing them in mucus, and the currents could help these and other floating creatures to feed and reproduce.
