Trump admin trims Minnesota immigration presence as officers shifted to unified DHS command

The Trump administration, led by border czar Tom Homan, says it will draw down about 700 immigration enforcement officers in Minnesota due to increased coordination between county jails and federal officials, with CBP officers in Minnesota set to join ICE under a unified command. Homan said around 2000 officers remain after the drawdown and that the pre‑operation count was reportedly between 100 and 150, though not all sheriffs have committed to cooperating. Critics warn the move could erode trust in immigrant communities and deter crime reporting.

The investigation will determine if constitutional rights have been violated and may lead to reforms or legal action.

Correctional facilities, where inmates disproportionately have opioid use disorder and often cannot find treatment during and after their incarceration, have claimed a spot on the forefront of the nation’s devastating overdose epidemic, which now kills more than 100,000 Americans each year.

Brazilian Cities Plagued by Third Night of Gang Terror.

Gangs in several cities in north east Brazil have caused unrest for the third night, setting buses ablaze and carrying out gun attacks on buildings in urban areas in Rio Grande do Norte state. The attacks were sparked by conditions in jails holding gang members, after their requests for televisions, electricity and conjugal visits were turned down. Brazil's government has sent hundreds of federal security forces to the region and more could be sent in the coming days as unrest continues. Several cities have suspended public transport and closed schools in the wake of the violence.
