Solving Ineos Grenadiers' Tour de France Dilemma.

Ineos Grenadiers, once a powerhouse in the Tour de France, is facing a lack of clear grand tour contenders for the near future. With questions hanging over all its established winners, the team will be calling on relatively raw riders Dani Martínez and Carlos Rodríguez for the upcoming Tour. The team's oncoming GC conundrum is ironic given it let two of its most consistent GC racers go when Adam Yates and Richard Carapaz signed out this winter. The Giro d'Italia will be a very different race without Remco Evenepoel, who has left the race after testing positive for COVID-19. Ineos Grenadiers now have the strongest collective, but with Evenepoel gone, their race changes from one of looking for opportunities to suddenly having to adopt much more responsibility. Primož Roglič has had his own setbacks too, but Jumbo-Visma will look at Ineos and company with much more optimism. The real tactical plays have to come from riders like João Almeida, Lennard Kämna, Aleksandr Vlasov or Damiano Caruso.

Remco Evenepoel loses maglia rosa on treacherous Giro d'Italia mountain stage.

Ineos Grenadiers dominated the first mountain stage of the Giro d'Italia, with their trio of pacemakers keeping the front peloton under control and squeezing the gap down to just under two minutes by the finish. Despite the idea of shrinking the gap to keep Remco Evenepoel in the lead being at the back of his mind, Geraint Thomas said the main goal was simply to stay in control. The Gran Sasso will be the next battle, but after two days of steady rainfall, other, more unpredictable, factors might yet make a difference.
