Geraint Thomas narrowly missed out on beating Remco Evenepoel in the Giro d'Italia stage 9 time trial, but his strong performance puts him in second place overall, 45 seconds behind Evenepoel. Thomas confirmed his improving form and expressed his desire to fight for the Giro victory. His teammate Tao Geoghegan Hart was just one second slower than Thomas and remains well-positioned for the GC fight. Thomas said he was surprised at how close the gaps were between the top finishers in the time trial.
