Canada-India Relations: Strengthening Partnerships through Indo-Pacific Strategy

Canada's defence minister, Bill Blair, emphasized the importance of the country's relationship with India and stated that partnerships like the Indo-Pacific strategy will continue. The investigation into the killing of Khalistani extremist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar will also proceed. Tensions between the two countries arose after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made allegations of potential Indian involvement in the murder. India rejected the allegations and expelled a Canadian diplomat in response to Ottawa's expulsion of an Indian official. Canada had been seeking closer ties with India before the allegations were raised.
