Florida Scientist Sets Record by Living Undersea for 100 Days

Biomedical engineering professor Joseph Dituri broke the world record for the most days a human has lived underwater, spending 100 days in a special habitat 25 feet below the surface to study how the human body responds to long-term exposure to extreme pressure and whether living in hyperbaric pressure can slow the aging process. Dituri shrank in height by half an inch, got 60-66% REM sleep compared to 40% prior, saw his cholesterol drop by 72 points, and his inflammation go down by 30%. He documented his day-to-day life underwater on Instagram and will present his findings at the World Extreme Medical Conference in November.
