Iran Blocks Mahsa Amini's Family from Receiving Prestigious Human Rights Prize
Iran has prevented Mahsa Amini's family from traveling to France to receive the EU's top human rights prize on her behalf, while imprisoned Nobel peace prize winner Narges Mohammadi has begun a new hunger strike before her award ceremony in Oslo. Amini's family, including her father and brother, were stopped and had their passports confiscated despite having valid visas. The protests in Iran following Amini's death in police custody were met with a heavy crackdown, resulting in numerous deaths and arrests. Mohammadi's 17-year-old twin children collected her award in her absence, reading a speech she smuggled out of her cell.
