Jacinda Ardern named dame for service to New Zealand.

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been made a dame, one of the country's highest honors, for her service to the nation during some of its greatest challenges in modern times, including leading the response to the 2019 terrorist attacks and the Covid-19 pandemic. Ardern's appointment was announced by Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, who succeeded her as leader of the Labour Party. Ardern's time in power was defined by multiple crises, and she quickly became a progressive global icon remembered for her empathy while steering New Zealand through these crises. She announced her resignation in January and will head to Harvard University this fall to complete two fellowships.

Jacinda Ardern Honored for Service During Shooting and Pandemic.

Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been awarded one of New Zealand's highest honors, the Dame Grand Companion, for her leadership during the mass shooting and pandemic. Ardern was recognized for her service during some of the greatest challenges faced by the country in modern times. She led major changes to New Zealand's gun laws after the 2019 terrorist attack at two Christchurch mosques and was initially widely lauded for her handling of COVID-19. Ardern will be temporarily joining Harvard University later this year after being appointed to dual fellowships at the Harvard Kennedy School.
