Hungary Fires Museum Director for LGBT Content in Exhibition
The director of Hungary's National Museum, Laszlo Simon, was dismissed after allowing children to visit an exhibition featuring LGBT content, in violation of the country's laws banning the "promotion of homosexuality" to minors. The exhibition, titled 'Home for the Golden Gays', showcased the lives of LGBT individuals in the Philippines. The far-right Mi Hazank party launched a government inquiry, citing the 2021 law, and Minister for Culture and Innovation Janos Csak announced Simon's dismissal for failing to comply with legal obligations. The museum argued that it had included an age restriction notice on its website but had no means to verify visitors' ages. Hungary's parliament passed the law earlier this year, prohibiting the inclusion of gay people in educational material or TV shows accessible to those under 18.
