Mark Ridley-Thomas convicted of corruption and faces removal from LA council.
Mark Ridley-Thomas, a veteran Los Angeles politician, has been found guilty of federal corruption charges, leading to his removal from the City Council. His conviction means that the city’s 10th Council District will be without a voting representative until a new one is appointed. The council could either reappoint interim appointed Councilmember Heather Hutt or hold a special election to fill the seat. Ridley-Thomas’ conviction follows that of two other recent members of the council, Jose Huizar and Mitchell Englander, who were also found guilty of corruption charges.
