DOH Alerts Mililani Pet Fair Visitors to Avian Flu Risk
The Hawaii Department of Health has issued a warning about potential exposure to H5N1 avian influenza for attendees of the Mililani Pet Fair on November 2, after birds from an infected flock were present at the event. Although the risk of human transmission is low, attendees who touched ducks or geese are advised to monitor for flu-like symptoms and seek medical advice if symptoms develop. The Department of Agriculture is also monitoring animal health and urges veterinarians to report any suspected cases.
