CDC Issues Warning on Deadly Marburg Virus Outbreak in Africa
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned travellers going to Guinea and Tanzania to take prevention measures against the deadly Marburg virus, which has been spreading in Africa. The virus has a high mortality rate and epidemic potential, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The CDC is also sending personnel to help halt the spread of the virus. The Marburg virus causes haemorrhagic fever and has no known cure or vaccine, but early candidate vaccines and other treatments are being studied.
