Grand Haven native Dan Bylsma is set to be named the head coach of the Seattle Kraken, with a formal announcement expected Tuesday. Bylsma, who has a long history as both a player and coach, previously led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a Stanley Cup and has most recently been coaching the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds.
A 66-year-old man from Grand Haven, Michigan, was shot and killed by police after being found armed with a rifle in the parking lot of Trinity Grand Haven Hospital. The officers were responding to a report of a suicidal man. The incident resulted in a temporary lockdown of the hospital, but no patients, visitors, or staff were harmed. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, and the investigation has been handed over to the Michigan State Police.
Grand Haven, Michigan held its first-ever Pride festival, sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church, which drew thousands of people from across the state to celebrate the LGBTQI+ community. The festival featured a drag show, music, vendor fair, and kids activity corner. Despite pushback from some community members, the festival was approved unanimously by the city council in mid-April. The event was fenced off for alcohol consumption and local food vendors.
