Louisiana Governor Takes Action Against Saltwater Intrusion Threat
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has filed a Federal Emergency Declaration to address saltwater intrusion in the Mississippi River. The declaration, if approved, would provide federal funding for emergency response efforts and allow additional federal agencies to assist in combating the issue. The Louisiana Army Corps of Engineers has already begun constructing an underwater sill to delay the saltwater intrusion. Governor Edwards is optimistic that President Biden will approve the declaration to help the communities along the lower Mississippi River.
