Rising Global Carbon Emissions: A Record-Breaking Concern
Global carbon emissions from fossil fuels are set to reach a record high in 2023, according to a report by the Global Carbon Project. Despite the urgent need to reduce emissions to mitigate extreme weather events, the burning of coal, oil, and gas is projected to increase by 1.1% compared to 2022. The report comes as world leaders gather for the COP28 climate summit in Dubai. Another report by Climate Action Tracker warns that the rate of warming has not improved over the past two years. The findings highlight the need for rapid cuts in fossil fuel emissions to keep global heating within the targets of the Paris Agreement.
