Georgia Republicans Redraw Congressional and Legislative Maps to Maintain GOP Edge
Georgia Republicans have proposed new congressional maps that would create an additional majority-Black district in the state while targeting Democratic congresswoman Lucy McBath. Under the new maps, McBath's district would be redrawn into heavily Republican territory, effectively drawing her out of a congressional seat. The proposed maps were redrawn after a judge ruled that the state's congressional maps diluted the power of Black voters. If passed, the maps would spur a debate over whether majority-minority districts have the same protections against racial discrimination under the Voting Rights Act.
