Mountaineer Gas Discovers More Water Damage in Charleston Homes
Mountaineer Gas is facing a growing issue as it seeks to restore natural gas service to thousands of customers on Charleston's West Side in West Virginia. A high-pressure water line owned by West Virginia American Water Company broke on November 10, causing water to pierce a hole in Mountaineer Gas' distribution line and flow into residential lines inside homes and businesses. Mountaineer Gas has restored service to 825 customers but is still dealing with several hundred more that have experienced serious water damage, including ruined furnaces and appliances. The company is working to drain its infrastructure and replace damaged equipment, but full restoration is expected to take several more days. Mountaineer Gas is covering all repair costs and will provide credits on gas bills for affected customers.
