Apple has updated GarageBand for iOS 26 and Pixelmator Pro and Photomator for macOS Tahoe, mainly for stability and bug fixes, along with new app icons to match the latest OS designs.
iOS 26 introduces a new feature allowing users to set custom ringtones directly from the Files app without needing GarageBand, by sharing an MP3 or M4A file under 30 seconds and selecting 'Use as Ringtone'. This feature expands ringtone customization options, although Apple still sells traditional 30-second song ringtones through the iTunes Store. The update is currently in beta.
Apple issued a rare single-app security update for GarageBand, addressing a vulnerability that could allow malicious users to execute arbitrary code on macOS Sonoma and macOS Ventura. The update, version 10.4.11, aims to fix the use-after-free vulnerability, but users may not immediately see the update in the Mac App Store's Updates tab. It's recommended to update GarageBand as soon as possible to mitigate the security risk, and while the iOS version of GarageBand seems unaffected for now, an update may be imminent if the vulnerability exists in both versions.
