"Unveiling a Supernova 2.5 Billion Times Brighter Than the Sun in a Distant Galaxy"

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a detailed image of the galaxy UGC 5189A, located 150 million light-years away, where a supernova called SN 2010jl occurred over 150 million years ago, emitting at least 2.5 billion times more visible energy than the sun. This Type II supernova marks the death of a massive star, and studying its aftermath provides valuable insights into the conditions and effects of such cosmic explosions. The image also reveals the galaxy's structure, including plumes of bright gas and dust, and Hubble has studied several other supernova-hosting galaxies as well.
