"Netherlands Takes Action: Towing Burning EV-Laden Freight Ship"
Salvage specialists have started towing a burning freighter ship off the coast of the Netherlands to a less sensitive location after it had been ablaze for several days near the Wadden Sea nature reserve. The operation was delayed due to unfavorable winds and concerns about smoke-related risks. The ship, carrying over 3,500 cars including 500 electric vehicles, has proven difficult to extinguish due to the challenge of extinguishing lithium-ion batteries. The vessel is being towed to an area north of the islands of Schiermonnikoog and Ameland, away from the ecologically sensitive Wadden Sea reserve, to prevent severe environmental damage if it were to sink there.
