New York state is distributing free I Love NY-themed eclipse glasses for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8 at 30 locations, including several in the Rochester area. The glasses are limited to two pairs per person, while supplies last, with a limited amount distributed daily. Rochester Museum & Science Center is also selling eclipse glasses for $2.50 per pair.
A solar eclipse will be visible across the U.S. on October 14, with a "ring of fire" annulus visible in certain areas. To safely view the eclipse, solar eclipse glasses are necessary, and there may be a shortage. Glasses can be purchased at organized viewing events, science museums, or online from reputable vendors listed on the American Astronomical Society's website. Prices typically range around $5 per pair. Free distribution of solar eclipse glasses is also available at select libraries. It is recommended to share glasses within a group and not wear them for extended periods of time.
