"The Assassin" Targets For-Profit College Giant Adtalem

Fahmi Quadir, known as "The Assassin" for her successful short selling, has targeted for-profit education company Adtalem Global Education, citing concerns about its financial stability and the quality of its programs. Quadir's firm, Safkhet Capital, claims that Adtalem is "completely uninvestable" and predicts that many of its programs will fail to meet Department of Education standards. University of Phoenix affiliation rejected by Arkansas system board.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas system has rejected a proposal to affiliate with Transformative Education Services, a nonprofit entity that has been seeking to buy the for-profit University of Phoenix. The proposed arrangement would have provided the university up to $20 million a year. The vote was 5 to 4, with one abstention. The University of Phoenix was once the biggest university in the US, but its reputation has been battered by economic trends and regulatory scrutiny.
