Time Out Markets to Close Chicago and Boston Food Halls Amid Foot-Traffic Slump and Rising Costs

Time Out Group will close its Time Out Market food halls in Chicago and Boston on January 23, 2026, due to weaker post-pandemic foot traffic and higher operating costs. The markets, hosting roughly 15–17 eateries and bars each, will shutter in both cities, but the Time Out brand will remain online and active elsewhere, with the company saying it isn’t goodbye to either city.

"Artist Claims IKEA's New SF Food Hall Logo Copied His Work"

The new IKEA-affiliated food court Saluhall in San Francisco has come under fire from illustrator Tim Lahan, who claims that the food hall's logo is a blatant copy of his own illustration published in The New Yorker. The logo, featuring a disjointed eye, ear, mouth, and nose, bears a striking resemblance to Lahan's work. While Lahan has not formally registered a copyright for his illustration, legal experts suggest that it could still be considered a derivative work and potentially merit a trademark infringement case. Saluhall's operator, Ingka Centres, has stated that they are looking into the matter after it was brought to their attention.

"IKEA's San Francisco Saluhall Food Court: A Hit or Miss for Downtown Diners?"

Ikea's new food hall, Saluhall, in downtown San Francisco offers a variety of mostly vegan local food offerings, including options from Curry Up Now, Kayma Algerian Eatery, Casa Borinqueña, Momo Noodle, and Taqueria la Venganza. Initial reviews suggest mixed opinions on the food, with some finding the offerings tasty but overpriced, while others feel the flavors don't quite hit the mark. The food hall's opening is seen as a potential boost for the city's struggling downtown area, with hopes that it will attract more visitors.

Closure of La Cocina's Municipal Marketplace Food Hall in the Tenderloin Announced for September 1

La Cocina, the incubator for businesses led by women, immigrants, and people of color, is closing its public-facing food hall, Municipal Marketplace, in San Francisco ahead of schedule due to financial challenges. The food hall, which opened in April 2021, will shut down on September 1, about one-and-a-half years earlier than planned. La Cocina will continue to operate the La Paloma bar and a small lunchtime pop-up, but the closure of the food hall is a setback for the Tenderloin and Civic Center areas. Despite this, the neighborhood has seen exciting restaurant openings, including Outta Sight Pizza, Azalina's, and SPRO Coffee.
