Private Moon Rover to Launch on SpaceX Starship in 2026.

SpaceX has signed a commercial cargo contract with Astrolab to reserve a spot on an uncrewed Starship cargo mission to the Moon, which could launch as early as mid-2026. Astrolab is building a vehicle called the FLEX rover, which is about the size of a Jeep Wrangler and can carry up to two astronauts. The rover will become the largest to travel the lunar surface and will assist with cargo and building a permanent human presence on the Moon and beyond.

Astrolab has signed an agreement with SpaceX to deliver its first lunar rover, the Flexible Logistics and Exploration (FLEX) rover, to the Moon on a future Starship mission by mid-2026. The rover will carry around 2,200 pounds of customer cargo to the Moon, and is designed to support a sustainable human presence on the Moon and Mars. Astrolab is hoping to land a contract from NASA as part of the space agency’s Artemis program to the Moon.
