Florida Faces Ongoing Threat of Flash Floods and Severe Weather
South Florida is preparing for another multiday flash-flood threat as a storm system approaches the region, adding to the already record-breaking rainfall totals of 2023. A stalled-out cold front and an approaching disturbance in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will bring heavy rain and possible thunderstorms starting Wednesday and lasting into the weekend. The forecast models are uncertain about the exact path of the low-pressure system, but several inches of rain are expected, with the highest totals on the east coast of Florida, particularly in South Florida. Miami and Fort Lauderdale, already experiencing significant rainfall surplus, are at risk of flash flooding.
