Kefir and Fermented Milk: A Heart-Healthy Choice
A study involving around 100,000 Swedish participants found that consuming non-fermented milk is linked to a higher risk of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction in women, but not in men. Fermented milk products, like yogurt, did not show this risk and may offer heart-protective benefits. The study suggests that sex-specific metabolic differences might explain the increased risk in women. Experts recommend considering fermented milk in dietary guidelines due to its potential health benefits.
