2023 Fall Foliage Forecast: Michigan and Wisconsin Peak Color Predictions

The annual Fall Foliage Prediction Map by SmokyMountains.com has forecasted the timeline for the peak fall color change in Michigan in 2023. The color change will begin in early September, with the Upper Peninsula experiencing it earlier than the Lower Peninsula. The peak color change is expected to occur in early October, with the entire state past peak by October 23rd. The predictions are based on official data, historical trends, and user reports, although they may not be 100% accurate. The changing colors are a result of diminishing sunlight and colder temperatures, causing chlorophyll to break down in the leaves.
