Essentia Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System have agreed to merge and form a new integrated regional health system serving rural communities. The merger, pending regulatory approval, is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. The new system will bring together a network of 3,800 providers and 150 sites of care, including 25 hospitals, with the aim of enhancing patient care and services, expanding access to care, and navigating current and future challenges in rural healthcare.
Michael Green, a Moorhead man, suffered a stroke in November 2022 and credits Essentia Health for saving his life. Green had a clot in his heart and had no prior symptoms. He wants people to be aware that strokes can happen at any time and to be prepared to act fast. The American Stroke Association recommends using the BEFAST acronym to identify stroke symptoms. Green's medical team emphasizes the importance of being up to date with primary care and calling 911 immediately if stroke symptoms are observed. 80% of strokes are preventable through lifestyle changes such as losing weight, eating healthy, quitting smoking, drinking less alcohol, and reducing stress.
