Astronomers Uncover Interstellar Tunnel Near Solar System
Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics have discovered an 'interstellar tunnel' within the Local Hot Bubble (LHB) using data from the eROSITA All-Sky Survey. This tunnel, located towards the constellation Centaurus, may connect the LHB to neighboring superbubbles, forming a network of hot gas. The LHB, a 1,000-light-year-wide cavity filled with million-degree gas, is believed to have been shaped by supernova explosions. The eROSITA telescope's position allows for clearer observations, overcoming challenges posed by Earth's atmosphere.
