Northeastern University Receives $17.5 Million Grant to Lead Virus Outbreak Prediction Center
Northeastern University has been granted $17.5 million by the CDC to establish the Center for Advanced Epidemic Analytics and Predictive Modeling Technology (EPISTORM), which aims to detect and prepare for future outbreaks of infectious diseases, particularly in rural areas. The center will utilize AI, machine learning, and wastewater surveillance to provide monitoring, forecasting, and scenario analysis for the country. Consortium members include universities, healthcare organizations, and private companies, and the initiative aims to create a national system for infectious disease detection and preparation.
